disk42: Secure, encrypted cloud storage

Disk42 is an online cloud storage service focused on user privacy and data security.  It encrypts all of your files with state-of-the-art cryptography algorithms before they are uploaded to our servers. Because your password is never sent to disk42’s servers, the company has no access to your files, and as such, cannot analyze your data or sell it to others. This means that all your files stay private and secure, even in the cloud. To guarantee maximum security, disk42 was created using the latest open source software.  Disk42 has used the latest technology to create a secure file storage service that prevents the mass surveillance carried out by many governments and marketing companies, addressing the mounting privacy concerns facing today’s internet users.

As Dominik Mauritz, co-founder of disk42 puts it – “every file I upload to the Internet is a piece of the puzzle of myself. Each file holds personal information about me. You would quickly build a picture of who I am: where I live, what I do for a living, maybe even my political views. I don’t want to live in a world where my personal data isn’t secure. So I sat down with friends and together we imagined what the perfect cloud storage would look like. We have started building this service.”  Disk42 is solving a technically complex problem: making something secure and easy to use at the same time is difficult.

While in the long term, the disk42 team wants to convince the majority of people that they offer the best cloud storage out there, their current competition mainly comes from Dropbox and Google Drive because of their widespread distribution.  At present, disk42 is mainly targeting tech-savvy people, but in the future hopes to expand its reach to everyone.  To do this, they have started a crowdfunding campaign, which can be found at http://igg.me/at/disk42 .  Disk42 runs on a freemium model, and as such, users can get up to 10GB of free storage, with more space being offered for a fee.
