These lines are familiar to all the ‘Breaking Bad’ fans. Saul Goodman, a crooked strip mall lawyer who served for Walter White and Jesse Pinkman. His clever approach to law and order, his advertisement using low-budget TV commercial, Billboards under the tagline “Better Call Saul”, his out of the court drama; it attracts us all and forces us to know and see more of him. With the end of ‘Breaking Bad’, we miss the drama and him. Well, the writers Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould are creating a new series around the character Saul Goodman, which would be a prequel to ‘Breaking Bad’ and Walter White. Before the broadcast of its pilot episode in November 2014, here is what the fans can expect from Better Call Saul.
Younger Saul
Since, ‘Better Call Saul’ is a prequel to ‘Breaking Bad’, Saul Goodman played by Bob Odenkirk will be younger. It would be really interesting to see Saul in a new avatar. The makeup artists will have lots of work to do. Younger Saul could be more active and less famous, but the drama and lawyer tricks could still continue. But, we have to wait and see how younger Saul actually will be and how will the ladies handle the ‘gentleman’.
Saul Goodman-“S’all good, man!”
If you remember, on meeting Walt (who introduces himself as Mr. Mayhew, in season 2 of Breaking Bad, episode: Better Call Saul) Saul explains his real name is not Goodman, it’s “McGill” and he is actually Irish. Also, “Goodman” is a play on word to better attract clients: “S’all good, man!” becomes “Saul Goodman”. It would be really interesting to know how he got this name after all and exactly when. The journey of his name change would really be interesting to watch. We can actually expect some episodes where Saul would be called as “Saul McGill” and not “Saul Goodman”. What name does it say on his law degree? It would be interesting to know.
More Humorous and ‘less’ Dark
‘Breaking Bad’ gave us a lot of blood and dark side of the society. In the show, 271 people were killed or died. We saw every possible cause of death; poisoning, shot by various guns, suicide, murder, wrong gone robbery, blown up with bomb, drug overdose, air-crash, run over by a vehicle, throat slit by knife, assassins, set on fire, poisoned with ricin, and many more. I guess it would be good for the viewers to watch some comedy now. “Better Call Saul” is going to be a comedy and drama. And in addition, it would be interesting to explore the comic side of the magical writings of Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould.
Out of Court Drama
Gilligan told in a July 2012 interview, “I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law. He’ll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun-I would like that.” This statement wants me to believe that there would be more of Saul Goodman outside the court than inside. This would create a broader drama with the series and would keep hold to the ‘Breaking Bad’ fans that are more used to seeing Saul more on the streets of Albuquerque, New Mexico than courts.
Let’s just say I know a guy…who knows a guy…who knows a guy
What kind of man knows a guy who knows guy who knows a guy? A clever one. We know how Saul always has a solution to every problem. Some people have a key to every lock. Saul has a number for every problem. But, the question is, how did Saul come up with such kind of contacts? This mystery would certainly be solved in the journey of a younger Saul. It would be interesting to go on a journey which would start from nowhere and end up Saul meeting the meth cooks: Walter White and Jesse Pinkman.
Awesome Actors
The makers of ‘Breaking Bad’ did one thing perfectly, the casting. The creator Vince Gilligan cast Bryan Cranston as Walter White as he already knew his abilities as an actor from having been worked with him for an episode of the television series ‘The X-files’. Also, the amazing cast of ‘Breaking Bad’ helped the writers execute what they imagined for. Jesse Pinkman played by Aaron Paul was proposed to be killed by the end of season 1, but the amazing chemistry shown between Walter and Jesse made him stay till the end. That was all because of the brilliant acting. So, obviously with the entry of Michael McKean as Dr. Thurber, an attorney who is “restricted by an unusual affliction”, the presence of Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman and Jonathan Banks as Mike Ehrmantraut and many others, we would see an amazing cast and performance on the upcoming show.
Yeah Bitch!!- I’m here.
Famous for his ‘bitchy’ dialogues like: “Science Bitch!”, “Yeah, bitch! Magnets!”, “Oh well, hail Hitler, bitch”, Jesse Pinkman can be expected doing possible guest appearances in one or two episodes of ‘Better Call Saul’. After the finale of ‘Breaking Bad’, it would be really interesting to see again the old side of Pinkman. Possibly, Saul could be seen helping out Pinkman to save his ass from the DEA and other law and order bodies for his petty crimes.
The Magic of Gilligan
We all love ‘Breaking Bad’, and the person who made it happen was Vince Gilligan and his team. With him along with Peter Gould writing the series, we can hope for an amazing journey of comedy and drama. ‘Breaking Bad’ was filled with twist and turn. Well, we could expect same twisted journey of Saul Goodman and his associates. Gilligan has clearly indicated the show being comedy and drama, but we have to keep our minds open for an instant change of scenario and story line.
‘Breaking Bad’ has been an awesome journey for the viewers and so will be ‘Better Call Saul’. Let’s not keep our expectation totally high and just hope for the best. But, one thing is certain; it would be an unforgettable experience.
If you think you will fall, Better Call Saul !!
