Bmw’s Streetlight charges your car

If you have been thinking of buying an electric  BMW for sometime it’s a good time now.  BMW has gone all the way to make driving electric cars in the city a lot easier.  They have worked with the government and are coming up with special streetlights that can also charge your electric vehicle. The technology, called ‘Light and Charge’, will go live in Munich next year.

“Charging infrastructure is essential to the future of electric vehicles in cities,” said Peter Schwarzenbauer, from the BMW’s board of management. BMW unveiled  the technology at the Eurocities conference in Munich last week.

BMW has also mentioned that,  a couple of the next-generation streetlights will be installed in Munich next year. They’ll feature LED lights similar to car headlights, along with BMW’s ChargeNow electrical stations.

Light and charge stations could impact the way we look at electric cars. Usually the common problem is lack of charging stations yet. Some models across all the major car makers like Tesla Model III, Audi, BMW i3, Nissan Leaf take a lot of time charging. It could increase the number of people opting in for Electric cars.

The Light and Charge system could solve all those problems. The stations can integrate withalready existing infrastructure, so there’s no need to build a separate charging system across the city.

Reuters reports that all kinds of electric cars will be able to charge at the stations. Drivers will be able to pay for their electricity via an app provided by BMW.

The added advantage is that it impacts less on the environment, LEDs are more energy efficient than regular streetlights. BMW also mentioned that they reduce light pollution because they illuminate areas more precisely than traditional lights. So they focus on the required area and not scatter it.
