About the Job

The Model Based Reasoning Area (MBR) at PARC has an immediate opening for a research scientist with experience in artificial intelligence, planning, automated reasoning, multi-agent systems, and design.  MBR is a growing group of researchers with world-class strengths in planning, scheduling, control, optimization, probabilistic reasoning, diagnosis, prognostics, and design and manufacturing of complex systems.  MBR specializes in the design and prototype implementation of solutions to practical real-world problems using cutting-edge technologies. The work at MBR covers a broad range of technology maturity, ranging from abstract algorithm formulation to prototype integrations with partners.  We work with a broad range of clients including government agencies, commercial entities, and Xerox to apply cutting edge technologies to challenging real world problems with an emphasis general and scalable model-based approaches.

The successful candidate will define and support research activities in model based reasoning.  The ideal candidate exhibits a deep understanding of general principles of various model-based reasoning approaches as well as curiosity about domain specific extensions and knowledge required for real world applications in design and autonomy.

 

Requirements:

• PhD in Computer Science, Math, or Engineering
• Ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams
• Software development skills necessary for integrating research into prototypes
• Desire advance the state-of-the-art by getting these ideas out into the real world through publications, software demonstrations, and client interactions

 

Desired skills include:

• Research contributions in AI applications to design
• Research contributions in multi-agent systems, planning, and collaborative autonomy
• Experience with standard software development tools Git and Jenkins
• Experience with Python or LISP
• Experience on government funded research projects
• Experience working in an applied R&D setting
