As lightening strikes a place only once so does a genuinely brilliant idea. Not bringing this ‘Eureka moment’ to life is just such a shame. However, most of us are not fortunate enough to have the moolah, contacts and skills to give form to it.
Well it’s time to let go of that worry as Spark Ideas is here to solve this very problem. This online application offers a platform that lets entrepreneurs and developers meet. With Spark you no longer need to have the ‘right resources’ as developers on this site will bring your idea to life in exchange for equity with your startup. Well this to us surely is a fair trade off!
Meet The Power Team That Made It Happen!
Spark Ideas was conceptualized and co-founded by Mitchell Trulli and Ryan Shaw. They originally started the idea in a Babson Boston pitch contest. This idea blew the panel away and the duo was given mentorship, guidance, and the resources to start the website.
Get To Know The App Better!
Spark Ideas is aimed at matching entrepreneurs with great ideas to developers who can breathe life into these ideas in exchange for a piece of equity in the startup. Concepts can range from apps, to products or websites. Engineers, developers, and designers submit their bids to these ideas and offer to trade their work for equity.
The Problem Spark Ideas Is Solving!
Folks usually have these fantastic thoughts but often lack the skills, money, or connections to bring them to life. This is when Spark steps in! It provides you with a platform that allows your idea to be brought to fruition minus the money and connections. All that will be required to give you a shot at success, is some simple teamwork and some equity given to a skilled worker who brings your concept to life.
“In high school we started to work on an app idea and originally looked for app developers in our school who were willing to work for equity and believed in our idea. We eventually found one, but we thought why not create a platform that will connect the two groups and streamline the process with legal documents as well”, says the team.
On Challenges Faced & Competitors
Like most startups, getting the first couple of hundred people to sign up and believe in the concept without any history was originally the team’s most challenging task. After that hump and the first ideas being built for equity, the momentum began to pick up.
In terms of competition, Kickstarter and other freelance sites are the app’s serious direct competitors. However, these sites utilize money to bring ideas to life whereas Spark Ideas focuses on matching skills with ideas.
On The Journey Ahead & Target Audience!
“Our next step is adding a marketplace to Spark where developers who have earned equity in startups can list and sell their equity for immediate cash. This marketplace will be launched this year”, says the team.
At the moment, Spark is mainly targeting entrepreneurs with ideas, specifically those without money to bring them to life such as college students. In addition, it is also targeting app and web developers who are looking to beef up their resume and earn equity in interesting startups that can later be sold for cash on Spark’s marketplace.
The Monetizing Model!
“Spark is monetized through promoted posts, for example having your idea broadcast on the front page costs money or having highlighted post costs money. In addition, we take a small % equity in the concepts brought to life through our site”, says the duo.
So what are you waiting for? If you are someone who has a brilliant idea that is waiting to take form, then Spark Ideas is your platform to success.
Psst… Special Offer For Our Readers!
The team of Spark was generous enough to give you a cool offer. Our readers who post an idea will automatically have it posted to the front page of the site. This will maximize their opportunity to have developers submit their bid to it. See following us does have its perks!
