SmartThings, bringing you a smart home

If you are fed up of finding keys and switches to your home and find it difficult handling the controls of your house, there is an easier, better and modern way to deal such aspects of life and do what you want. Unlock a new world of possibility by using Smartphones to communicate with your surrounding in the house using SmartThings. Secure your home, control lights and electronics and get notifications when people come and go; create a safer, smarter home as it is about time that things got easier and smarter. Say hello to your smart home in palm of your hand, using SmartThings.

SmartThings is the platform for what we call the “Open Physical Graph”. The Physical Graph is the virtual, online representation of the physical world. The first applications of the SmartThings technology are focused on revolutionizing the Home Automation industry! Home Automation has been a dream for decades with the idea of smart homes that would do lots of things automatically, predict your needs, and even talk to you! SmartThings is the first solution for Home Automation that is Easy, Open, and Intelligent enough for broad consumer adoption. That means that you can Do It Yourself (DIY) using the SmartThings platform without the need for electricians or expert IT support.

In order to make this vision a reality, SmartThings technology realized early on that it needed to provide an end-to-end solution of hardware, software, a fantastic user experience, and incredible user support. To do that they provide three different SmartThings “Kits” that include their SmartThings Hub, Smart Devices, and are bundled with free SmartApps to make your life better.

What does the app offer?

SmartThings app offers easy-to-follow steps so that the user can customize SmartThings to fit their lifestyle. SmartThings remembers user’s daily routines and automatically adjusts things like climate, music, lighting, and more to their preferences. When their plans and patterns change, a simple push of a button is all it takes to get SmartThings to adapt. And with a rapidly expanding list of popular smart home automation products that work with the app, the company has just begun to scratch the surface of what SmartThings is capable of.

Features

The SmartThings app and Hub instantly connects to different sensors, locks, light switches, outlets, thermostats, and other compatible devices in users home. These devices can then communicate with the user and each other to offer them home security, peace, and limitless possibilities.

Since SmartThings is compatible with hundreds of smart devices from a variety of manufacturers, once the user has a SmartThings Hub and free app, they can add as many other popular smart devices as they want to create a fully connected home.

SMARTAPP POTENTIAL IS LIMITLESS

SmartApps are able to mash up and interact with connected things in the physical world, as well as online and other services, allowing for incredible creativity. One can get notified immediately if their pet runs out of their yard without them later regretting the fact that they were uninformed. With SmartApp, one can get an early warning or directly contact a plumber when there is a leak somewhere (bathroom, basement), before damage gets out of hand. SmartApp, monitor drawers and cabinets that contain precious or dangerous items that ensure your stuff is safe. SmartApp, brighten, dim, or flicker the lights when you get another fan or follower on social networks with the “Buzz Barometer” SmartApp.

Unlimited Compatibility

Many of the existing things you own can be made smarter using SmartThings Kits. At launch, the following core devices will be available: Power Outlet – anything that can be plugged in, can be turned on and off,  Open/Shut Sensor – know if doors, windows or cabinets are open or closed, Motion Sensor – detect movement within a room, Presence Sensor – know when people and pets come and go.

SmartThings are designed to be compatible with many of the existing standards for home automation, smart energy and more. There are literally hundreds of existing sensors and devices you can use. And with your support, many more of these devices will be certified for use and made available in the SmartThings Store; Door Locks, Thermostats, Temperature and Humidity Sensors, In-Wall Switches and Dimmers, Smoke and CO Alarms, Moisture and Flood Sensors, Vibration and Pressure Sensors and much more.

Developer and Maker Kits

The company is giving the more adventurous among us early access to all the SmartThings tools. All Makers and Developers backer levels come with- 1 SmartThings Hub, either 3 SmartThings (developers) or 2 SmartThing Modules or Shields for Arduino (makers), Software Development Kit (SDK) – everything you need to develop SmartThings-friendly software, Cloud Platform API – integrate your device or app directly with SmartThings, Mobile App Extension Template – embed controls for your project in the SmartThings mobile app, and A whole lot of love!

Perfect uses

The Home and Family category uses the SmartSense Presence Sensors to tell you when family members have entered and left the house. You can attach one of these little sensors to a pet’s collar to keep tabs on your pooch, too. The sensors have a range of 50 to 150 feet, depending on the location of your Hub and the materials used in your home’s construction. The cool thing about SmartSense is that you can have SmartThings turn on lights, unlock doors, and send text messages when someone arrives home. Likewise, you can have it turn things off and lock up when someone leaves. Each sensor can be customized for individual family members, and you can assign a photo to each sensor to identify it on the Dashboard
